Personal training & movement coaching
Henley · Wargrave · Twyford

Strength, movement and skill for everyday life and beyond.

Personal coaching shaped around your goals and your life. Purposeful training, real progress.

Early morning training in Wargrave

Is this for me?

Training for real bodies and real lives.

You do not need to be fit, flexible or confident in a gym before you begin. I start with what matters to you and build from where you are.

You want to get stronger but feel uncomfortable or directionless in a conventional gym.
You are returning after time away and want to rebuild your strength and confidence.
A busy or desk-based life has left you feeling stiff, weak or disconnected from your body.
You want a meaningful goal — from moving more comfortably to achieving your first pull-up or handstand.

Movement philosophy

Strong, capable and mobile —
for life, not just for the gym.

Training should not feel like something you simply have to endure. It can give you a goal to work towards — and help you feel stronger, more capable and more at home in your body.

Going Strong combines conventional strength training with bodyweight and calisthenics work, mobility and skill development. I use whatever tools best serve your goals, whether that means building a foundation of strength, moving with more confidence or exploring handstands, rings and other movement skills.

Every session has a purpose, every progression is built step by step, and the long-term goal is a body that moves well and supports the life you want to lead.

1
Purposeful training
Every session has a direction. Whether that's building strength, developing a skill or improving how you move, there's always something to work towards.
2
Movement quality first
Strong foundations unlock everything else. Every session builds on good positions, control and awareness — before adding load or complexity.
3
Goals worth chasing
Moving without pain. A handstand. Your first pull-up. Stronger legs. Concrete goals — whatever yours are — make training purposeful and far easier to stick with.
4
Progress you can feel
The best sign of progress isn't a number — it's how you feel climbing stairs, carrying things, recovering from a long day. That is what we train for.

Grant — Going Strong personal trainer and movement coach

Meet your coach

Hi, I'm Grant.

Going Strong grew from my lifelong passion for movement and a desire to build a more flexible life around my children while doing work that genuinely helps other people.

I believe movement mirrors personal growth. It gives us a simple, honest way to connect with ourselves, take on a challenge and discover what we are capable of. That is why I love working with anyone pursuing a meaningful goal — whether that is moving with more confidence, rebuilding strength or achieving a first pull-up, handstand or muscle-up.

My coaching combines strength training, mobility, calisthenics and movement skills, but the method is never the point. I bring knowledge and attention to the detail, then coach in a relaxed, supportive way that meets you where you are. Together, we build progress step by step.

Hand balancing is a big part of my own practice. I love the mix of physical control, patience and mental challenge it demands — and the reminder that worthwhile progress rarely happens in a straight line.

What clients say

Results that go beyond the session.

After countless YouTube videos and an app, I still couldn't do a muscle-up. Just six weeks with Grant and I finally achieved it. It was the detail and technicalities I was missing, and Grant addressed those areas perfectly. I'm also far more confident with my handstands. Very pleased with my progress!

Costa · Calisthenics coaching

Grant created a personalised programme that was spot on for my goals. His knowledge of how the body works was invaluable, but the coaching was also relaxed, encouraging and positive. In six weeks I achieved my first pull-up and 20 press-ups in one go — I realised I'm stronger than I thought.

Becks · 1:1 coaching & running strength

I was apprehensive about starting strength training, but Grant made me feel at ease. I’ve really enjoyed it and how well it complements the cardio exercise I’m doing. What surprised me was how something so concentrated could have a significant impact on my mobility, stability and strength. I used to think I had to be a sweaty mess to make progress, but I’ve noticed a really big difference - it’s been so pleasing. Having everything explained so precisely—the movements, and the correct form—made a real difference.

Rosie · Small group training

Postpartum I knew I’d be stiff, but I’m surprised how much progress I’ve made in just six weeks. My strength has improved, and I feel much more stable when holding positions. It’s been great training together, seeing each other progress and noticing that we can do a little more every week.

Common questions

Everything you need to know.

Not at all. Going Strong works with complete beginners, people returning after a long break and experienced movers who want a more focused approach. I start from where you are and build at a pace that is appropriate for you.
Two to three training sessions a week is a good foundation for many people, but these do not all need to be coached sessions. We will agree a realistic mix of coached and independent training based on your goals, experience and schedule. Consistency matters more than an ambitious plan you cannot sustain.
That depends on your goals. Sessions draw on a blend of approaches — bodyweight and calisthenics work, conventional strength training (including barbell and dumbbell work where it makes sense), mobility, and skill-based progressions like handstands, ring work or movement flows. I use whatever tools serve your goals best, not a fixed ideology.
We will talk through your goals, training history, schedule and any concerns you have. I can then look at how you move, agree a sensible starting point with you and recommend the type of coaching that would suit you best. The consultation is free and there is no obligation to continue — we take as long as we need to.
Light rain is no problem — sessions go ahead as planned, so come dressed for it. In more severe weather we will either move the session to an indoor location or reschedule, whichever you would prefer.
Coaching packages start from £140 per person, per month for small-group sessions, up to £320 per month for 1:1 Performance coaching — see the full breakdown in Pricing above. The exact rate depends on session frequency and training location, and every client starts with a free, no-obligation consultation so we can agree what's right for you before you commit to anything. Group and workplace bookings are priced individually — just get in touch.
